New additions

I finally got a chair for my desk in my craft room.  I’m super excited about it, partly because it is ridiculously comfy (thank you Ikea) & partly because of its cover.  It comes off super easy (again, thank you Ikea) &, well, just look at it!

It is a glorious blank canvas, an embroiderer’s dream!  Specifically the back  – I don’t think I could stomach sitting on any stitching.  But, oh, what I could create on the back!

Anyway, just need to get felt on the feet so I can slide it on my beautiful bamboo floors without destroying them.  It’ll probably be a long while before I apply art to this canvas.  I have been doing lots of stitching, but none I can share on the interwebs right now as they are all pretty much all gift projects. I’m hoping to finish all gifts soon, so I can, y’know, gift them in time for the holidays, & then I’ll be back to sharing stitched skulls as usual.  What species do you all think would look best on the back of my chair?

The (much belated) Craft Room Final Update

Does anyone else ever have something to do, even something you’re super excited about, that just does not happen.  And then doesn’t happen over & over again.  Well, that’s how we got to the end of October without me sharing the final photos of my craft room, which was finished & beautiful a month ago.  It has since been filled with overflow from the last leg of our flooring adventure, but it is still a beautiful & calm space.

Completed Craft Room

Haven.

Just need a chair for my desk, but that will come later.

Clearly, I was meant to be obsessed with embroidery

This is a collage of examples of projects from my childhood. The kitty piece was my very first embroidery project, with help from the Grandmommie named in the last photo. She traced the picture from a coloring book to fabric, did the lazy daisies & kitty face for me, & I did the remainder. I always thought it was AMAZING embroidery. Then I started up with it again & realized…I was a kid. A decent embroiderer, but still a kid.
The other two photos are of a doll my grandmother made me. She did all the stitching on it & it says “wherever you go, whatever you do, always know that I love you.” I just recently rediscovered this doll in my keepsakes & fell in love with her all over again. My grandmother was an incredible crafter & I realize more & more how blessed I was to have her as my Grandmommie. She had her own kiln & could  embroider & paint & sculpt. The only thing she didn’t teach me was knitting. Luckily her sister-in-law had that topic covered.

My craft room is almost done!! I don’t want to share any more photos until it is 100% done, so after I get things hung on the wall & my big nerd shelf organized, I’ll photograph the whole room & post it. I am so. very. happy with how it is looking. I can’t wait to share it.

Craft Room Update Post #5

Alright internets, I need an opinion. I cannot decide if I love or utterly despise my new yarn storage.

Are you all digging on the wine-rack-as-stash-storage gig in this instance? Maybe it’s the wicker or maybe it’s the variety in the types of yarn, meanig balls vs skeins, etc, but something is making this less than the amazing I was after & it is bugging me lots.

Craft Room Update Post #2

Woohoo! Nearly 1/3 of the way done in one evening!  And look at that amazing closet corner.  Look at it!  My hubby is so good at this stuff, it makes me feel so lucky I don’t have to deal with some sweaty stranger coming into my home.  I cannot wait to put this room back together & get it organized.  I am so excited about what I can produce with an efficient & clean craft room.  I am so lucky!!

Craft Room Update Post #1

We are installing bamboo flooring on our entire second level, replacing very yucky carpet. So far we have completed both the boys’ rooms & now it’s my craft room’s turn. I am now planning a purge for this room due to having to get everything packed & moved out of the room. And there is no true “before” shot because ALL THE THINGS were all over everywhere before I started packing. One of the best things about all this will be the shelves Mike has found to install in half the giant closet to give me some true storage space & a much better way to keep everything truly organized. Up to now, I’ve been employing the “pile everything on top of everything else” method & it has not been working, shockingly.
